Mapping for Humanity: Using Digital Mapping to Better the World

Sat Jan 19, 2019
10:00am to 1:00pm ET
Age: 10-14
Price: Free; however, students must register.
Location:
Azavea

In this workshop held at Azavea, students learn how satellite images, collected by various agencies around the world, can be used to help global humanity. Platforms like OpenStreetMap and Tomnod offer an opportunity for volunteers, (such as the participants in Techgirlz) who are not necessarily experts in coding or interpreting this information, to contribute to critical missions such as recognizing roads/buildings in remote parts of Nepal and Africa or even mapping damage during Hurricane Matthew/other current natural disaster areas.
