Winters were harsh in the 18th century, and the Wentz family prepared plenty of provisions.  Without refrigeration, colonial families found other ways to preserve food.  Visit our Smokehouse to learn how meats were flavored, cured, and preserved at an 18th-century farm.

Also, check out the summer kitchen to see how those provisions were used.  Cooks will demonstrate open-hearth cooking and baking in a beehive bake oven.  Find out what types of food a family like the Wentzes ate at this time of year as you enjoy the sights and smells of good home cooking!
