New York Historical Society's Dimenna Children's Museum kids off amonth of programs celebrating Black history and culture with a stacked Sunday Funday lineup that includes arts and crafts, storytimes, costumed interpretation, and a special book club.

The schedule:

11:30am | The Girl with a Mind for Math (storytime)
Little ones learn about real-life submarine engineer Raye Montague, who faced down racism and sexism at every step on her journey. After the story, build your own submarine!
Ages 3-6

1pm | Living History: A Birthday Party in Honor of Enslaved Children
Honor the lives of children who were enslaved in North America. Observe a libation ceremony, sing a special birthday song, cut a cake, and make a doll inspired by one created by an enslaved parent.
All ages

2pm | Reading into History: Elijah of Buxton (Book club)
Discover the heart-wrenching tale of Elijah Freeman, the first free child born in the Canadian settlement of Buxton, who travels to America and discovers the horrors of enslavement.
