Seaport Kids Screen-Free Summer Recess + Social Media Talk for Parents
Double dutch. Hula hoops. Hop scotch. Introduce the kids to some good old-fashioned outdoor games on the iconic Rooftop at Pier 17. While kids have fun, parents can join an expert led session on how social media and screen time impacts children's brain development.
Summer Recess, powered by Mommy Poppins, features an instructor from Double Dutch Lovers NYC who will coach kids on the finer points of jump-rope arts. It's a great opportunity to ditch the screens and get back to basics.
Even better: as the kids jump it out, parents can join a discussion on ways social media and screen time impact children's brain development, led by Dr. Heidi Bender, a certified neuropsychologist from NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. Give your kids an engaging experience off their screens, while you learn why and how to reduce the negative effects of screen time on children of all ages. Parents can enjoy a complimentary cocktail while attending the talk, with the opportunity to ask questions.
Rooftop Recess starts at 5:30 with double dutch demo and instruction starting at 6 PM.
Parent Talk:
5:30pm – 6:00pm: Meet & Greet
6:00pm – 6:45pm: Parent Talk
6:45pm – 7:00pm: Q&A
Parents are welcome to join the talk about social media’s effects on kids and adolescents, even if their kids aren’t attending the Summer Recess event.
Seaport Kids is presented by NewYork-Presbyterian, the Seaport's Official Health Care Provider.
