Layer the Walls at Abrons Arts Center
Sun Feb 23, 2025
3:00pm ET
Age: 8+
Price: $20 (24.13 including fees)
Location:
Abrons Arts Center Playhouse
In one Lower East Side tenement, 40 layers of wallpaper were found clinging to the walls— each piece applied by a new immigrant family. Using puppetry, masks, and live action, Layer the Walls tells the incredible stories within each layer.
Layer the Walls, Part I: Turn of the Century (1870-1909)
- An Irish father is forced to take a dangerous job building the Brooklyn Bridge
- Italian brothers survive discrimination and The Great Blizzard of 1888
- Russian Jewish girls must decide if they will join the 1909 Garment Workers' Strike
The performance runs for approximately 60 minutes. Families are invited to a talkback with the cast and creative team following the performance.
Interested in more stories of immigration on stage? Stay tuned for Layer the Walls Part II: Mid-Century (1930-1970) on Saturday, 3/1 at Abrons Arts Center, or on Saturday, 3/15 at Brooklyn College.
