Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Family Day! at DiMenna Children's Museum
Explore the history of the AAPI community with a jam-packed day of story times, living history, art making, and an AAPI family guide.
Sunday Story Time
11:30–12:30pm, ages 3-6
Learn about Vice President Kamala Harris in a book written by her own niece, Meena Harris! With illustrations by Ana Ramírez González, Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea tells the story of two sisters working together with their community to transform the empty courtyard of their apartment into a playground. After the read-aloud, design your own playground.
Artmaking and Conversation
12:30–2:30pm
Do you know how Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month started? Learn about the Asian American Political Alliance and find out how two students from UC Berkeley started a whole movement! See how the movement continues with Family Program Interns and the AAPI figures they have been researching this year. Create a banner to show support for the civil rights of all Asian American and Pacific Islander people and stop by the button-making station to show your support with slogans or designs that you create. All ages
