Public Viewing of the 2023 Partial Solar Eclipse

In Los Angeles on October 14, 2023, the Moon will cover 78 percent of the Sun’s diameter and 71 percent of the Sun’s area.

Griffith Observatory hosts a public viewing event for this partial solar eclipse on its front lawn from 8am to 11am.

Grounds open at 6am, public event begins at 8am.

The eclipse begins at 8:08am. The maximum is at 9:24am; the eclipse ends at 10:50am.

NO outside or personal telescopes are permitted anywhere on the Observatory’s grounds during the event.

DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT PROPER EYE PROTECTION. 
Affordable, safe eclipse glasses and viewers are available at the Stellar Emporium book store and gift shop in advance and on October 14.  The NASA website has information on viewing the eclipse safely.
