Oyster Bay Holiday Market and Tree Lighting
Local businesses from Oyster Bay and East Norwich will set up tables to sample and sell their wares. This is the perfect opportunity to find a unique gift or a stocking stuffer. There will also be lots of fun activities like an ice skating rink for kids (or adventurous adults). John Canning will recite Twas The Night Before Christmas, Girl Scout Troupe 211 will set up fire pits for roasting marshmallows, a local choir will sing holiday carols, and at the end of the night, a special guest will join in; Santa Claus!
Santa won't be the only special guest we have this year. Oyster Bay's beloved Theodore Roosevelt will make an appearance also. He will be portrayed Jim Wiegand, one of the top Teddy actors in the country, who has preformed at the White House for President George Bush.
One hundred years ago in 1918, people all across the world celebrated the first Christmas after World War I but for Theodore Roosevelt it was his last. This year we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of his last Christmas. From 12-4 the Sagamore Hill National Park will offer free shuttle service back and forth between the holiday market and Theodore Roosevelt's house.
From support of the Friends of Sagamore Hill, there will be hot cider and hot cocoa, crafts for the kids, Kathleen Bart will do a live reading of her book A Tale Of Two Teddies, and the Rose Tree will preform live holiday music.
