Mostly Free & Fun Things to Do this Weekend with Westchester Kids: Festivals, Rag-A-Muffins, Oktoberfests & More, Oct. 19 & 20

Fall festival’s abound this weekend. No matter where you live in Westchester you won’t have to travel far to reach one. Catch the Pirate School show at Hartsdale’s Spooktoberfest for Kids on Saturday or make fresh cider and stuff a scarecrow at the Greenburgh Nature Center’s Fall Festival on Sunday. Muscoot Farm is hosting its Autumn Celebration on Sunday and Pound Ridge is gearing up for HarvestFest on Saturday where you can listen to live music by the Smithereens and enjoy a New Orleans style parade.

Bronxville will be bustling this weekend with an Oktoberfest for Kids at the Bronxville Public Library on Saturday and a Children’s Halloween Festival in the village on Sunday. Larchmont will be swarming with guests all weekend as well with their ragamuffins parading on Saturday and the Sheldrake’s Fall Festival on Sunday.

Other ragamuffins will be marching down their main streets in Tarrytown and Chappaqua. Before everyone parades around Chappaqua, enjoy the festivities of the Annual Carnival at the train station.

Throughout the entire weekend, you can visit the Old Dutch Fest in Sleepy Hollow where the kids can get a chance to play music on a mobile carillon and dress up in Dutch period attire while the adults can sample some pumpkin ale and grilled brats! The Dutchess County Fairgrounds comes alive this weekend as well with the NY Sheep & Wool Festival.

On Saturday, join Mommy Poppins for a Haunted Halloween Sail with Dr. Blood! Tickets are still available so be sure to book yours soon!

Old Dutch Church – Sleepy Hollow
Enjoy grilled brats, pumpkin ale, cider, face painting, balloon tying, storytelling, music, fall crafts and the Headless Horseman. FREE

NY Sheep and Wool Festival Dutchess County
Sheep herding dog demonstrations, llama and alpaca farm displays, sheep breed displays, petting zoo, photo and art contests, frog, bug, and animal show and cooking demos. $12; FREE for children under 12.

SATURDAY

Spooktobertfest for Kids - Hartsdale
DJ, confetti clowns, inflatable slide and kid’s obstacle course, face painting, petting zoo, Halloween crafts and games and a pirate school show. $5

Pound Ridge HarvestFest – Pound Ridge
Live music by the Smithereens, New Orleans style parade, food, contests, games and activities for all ages. Beer garden by Magic Hat and a root beer garden for the little ones. FREE

Ragamuffin Parade – Larchmont
Line up begins at 12:30pm at the corner of Palmer and Larchmont Avenues and the parade will start at 1pm. FREE

Oktoberfest for Kids – Bronxville
Pretzels, root beer, apple cider, cider donuts, pumpkin decorating, scarecrow making, polka freeze dance, German chocolate cupcake decorating and relay races. FREE

Ragamuffin ParadeTarrytown
Line up begins at Patriot’s Park and ends at the Main Street Firehouse for food, fun and musical entertainment. FREE

SUNDAY

Greenburgh Nature Center’s Fall Festival – Scarsdale
A hands-on day for the kids participating in scarecrow making, pumpkin carving and painting, cider making, scavenger hunts, tractor rides, and petting zoo.  $10, $8 if you pre-register.

Muscoot Farm Autumn Celebration – Katonah
Spend the day listening and dancing to a band, watch a blacksmithing demonstration, make origami, visit the antique cars, decorate a sugar pumpkin, and take a hay ride. FREE

Ragamuffin Parade and Carnival – Chappaqua
The whole family is invited to dress in costume, march in the parade, ride the carnival rides and enjoy a full afternoon of fun. Carnival begins at 12:30pm and parade begins at 3:30pm. Admission is FREE and tickets for rides are $2.

Children’s Halloween Festival – Bronxville
Carnival rides, pony rides, food, live music, and more. FREE

Sheldrake’s Fall Festival – Larchmont
Join the environmental center’s day of family fun with pumpkins, animals, music, crafts and more. FREE with a suggested donation of $5.

BEYOND WESTCHESTER

Join the Mommy Poppins gang this Saturday for a Haunted Halloween Sail with Dr. Blood! Climb aboard Manhattan by Sail's haunted Clipper City Tall Ship for a festive Halloween sail with the hysterical (and a little gory) Dr. Blood. The demented doc will perform crazy science experiments, creepy magic tricks and maybe chop off a (fake) limb or two. Kids can also enjoy face painting, learn basic nautical skills and even join in on a costume parade! Tickets are still available
