Mount Gulian Historic Site

Mount Gulian Historic Site, Beacon, is pleased to offer tours of its historic home, 18th-century Dutch barn, and heritage garden throughout summer and into the fall. Visitors can learn about Mount Gulian’s centuries-long history that shaped our nation, including its part in the Revolutionary War as Patriot General Von Steuben’s headquarters.

They’ll learn about the founding of the Society of the Cincinnati, our country’s oldest veterans’ organization, and the history of generations of Verplanck family members who lived at Mount Gulian. Visitors will discover the stories of James F. Brown, an enslaved man who risked his life for freedom, and of Robert Newlin Verplanck’s participation in the Civil War as an officer in the US Colored Troops (USCT).  Artifacts on display span the 18th through the 20th centuries and include antique books, furniture, and an array of Revolutionary War items.

Tours are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, beginning Wednesday, June 21st through Sunday, October 29th at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm.  Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins will be accepted.  Reservations may be made by calling the site at 845-831-8172 or email at info@mountgulian.org.
