West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnival
One of the largest outdoor Halloween events in the world, the City of West Hollywood's Halloween Costume Carnival is legendary.
Although the focus of this event is primarily adult in nature, some families come out to view the wackiness during the earlier part of the evening. (The website states that the event is "open to all, but we do recommend leaving the kids and pets at home. With big crowds and risqué costumes, Halloween Carnival can be a bit rowdy.")
There are three stages with live entertainment as well as the much celebrated costume contest stage, where the winners are invariably wearing costumes that most of us would never have imagined. The action takes place along Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny and La Cienega; the area is open only to pedestrians in costume and the people who gape at them.
