60th Anniversary Train Rides
Visit the Whippany Railway Museum and ride one of its historic preservation trains in honor of its 60th anniversary. To help mark the occasion, all passengers receive a commemorative Morris County Central RR keepsake. The train ride is a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip.
Back at Whippany, be sure to visit the Museum building with its gift shop, and historic exhibits, with hundreds of artifacts on display.
The Museum traces its roots back to May 9, 1965 when the Morris County Central Railroad (MCC) began operating steam-powered excursion trains out of Whippany, NJ. At the same time, the Museum's predecessor organization was founded
While the Morris County Central RR ceased operations at the end of 1980, the Museum has persevered, and over the decades has saved several key pieces of equipment from the MCC.
Ride in either of the two meticulously restored, award-winning Club Cars: Lackawanna 2454 or 'Jersey Coast' for a reduced fare of $19.65 - Adult or Child.
Or choose to ride in one of our historic cabooses and enjoy a taste of working on the railroad. Fares for Caboose Class are: Adult: $10 each; Child: $5 each.
There's also an operating Lionel O gauge model railroad in operation.
Passengers don't just experience the train ride, they step into a world of America's travel options from 100 years - or more - ago. That authenticity is part of the charm of the Whippany Railway Museum's excursion trains - the Museum has a distinct niche with its vintage train that allows us to be a bit different from the rest.
