Norwood Independence Day Celebration
Norwood's 2024 Independence Day Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 4th. The theme of this year's festivities will be "Independence Day The Norwood Way."
It will begin with the Children's Bicycle, Tricycle, Doll Carriage and Historic Character Parade at 1:00 pm. The fee to participate is $1.00. Every participating child will receive a festive t-shirt and participation ribbon. Winners - those judged to have the best decorations on their vehicles or themselves - will be invited to ride in the parade.
At 2:00 volunteer readers will recite the famous Fourth of July address of Frederick Douglass "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" in the historical Old Parish Cemetery (rear of 480 Washington Street).
There will be a Carillon Concert at 2:30 pm featuring our own Lee Leach from Norwood and Margaret Angelini of Wellesley College. A tour of the magnificent 50-bell Memorial Carillon will take place during the concert.
At 5:00 pm Norwood's annual Firecracker 5K Road Race will take place. Applications can be obtained online at https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/Norwood/NFC5K.
The parade will begin at the Coakley Middle School at 5:30 pm and will follow its usual route down Washington Street and end at the Town Hall parking lot.
Please note that Nahatan and Washington Streets will be closed at 4:00 pm.
