Belmont and Watertown Juneteenth Festival
Set up a family picnic outside and enjoy the afternoon honoring the freedom of enslaved people in the United States. Festivities include music by a live DJ, a variety of food options, a special kids' corner, and trivia for all. Attendees will also get free ice cream from Ben and Jerry's as part of the celebrations.
Juneteenth, a federal holiday observed annually on June 19th, marks the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in the last held out state in the Confederacy, Texas, by Union Army General Gordon Granger in 1865. It's a day that not only acknowledges the deep and lasting effects of slavery on American history but also honors those who were wrongfully enslaved.
