Juneteenth Celebration in Hannibal Square
Sat Jun 14, 2025
10:00am to 2:00pm ET
Age: All ages
Price: Free
Location:
Hannibal Square Heritage Center
In honor of Juneteenth, the Hannibal Square Heritage Center invites the community to a special Open House commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and take guided tours of the Heritage Center while reflecting on this important milestone in American history.
Juneteenth marks the historic day—June 19, 1865—when Union troops, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that the Civil War had ended and all enslaved people were free. This moment came more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
