The world’s oldest operating fully-rigged tall ship, the Norwegian Sørlandet, is anchored at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, and family-friendly tours of the ship are free and open to the public.

The ship has a rich history. It was originally a training ship, launched in 1927 and designed to provide a complete maritime education to future sailors. The Sørlandet has since welcomed over 10,000 students of the A+ World Academy. Her rich history includes being the first ship in the world to offer co-ed maritime education, as well as the first ship to offer Advanced Placement Courses. More recently, the Sørlandet was also recognized for being the first Nordic training vessel to complete a circumnavigation, in 2017.
