Glittering Gardens inspired by Ebony G. Patterson in Fine Arts: Artist Ebony G. Patterson uses sequins, embroidery, and glitter to create lush and fantastical gardens. Patterson uses these materials to draw people into garden images to address issues of identity and social injustice. Kids can use similar materials to create gardens with important messages. Choose a message you would like to share with the world and create a garden around it. Embellish your garden to attract viewers and bring awareness!

Personal Clay Artifacts inspired by LaKela Brown in Fine Arts: LaKela Brown creates plaster reliefs by casting accessories like hoop earrings, gold chains, and more. Think of something that is important to you or your culture and use clay to create a relief of it! Draw, press, and imprint into the clay to create your very own artifact.

21st Century Fairy Tales inspired by Ronald Wimberly in the Gallery: Ronald Wimberly’s Prince of Cats is a modern comic retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The story takes place in 1980s New York, but retains the Olde English-style dialogue of the original play. Wimberly tells a centuries-old story using visual styles from modern times. In the gallery, kids create their own comic stories, retelling fairy tales as if they were taking place in our present day NYC.

Damion Scott Action Pose Sculptures in the Clay Bar: Damion Scott is a comic book illustrator and designer with prominent roles in both Marvel and DC Comics. His work often uses warped and exaggerated character design to convey action and movement. As a Brooklyn native, much of his work reflects the graffiti and street art he saw growing up. He even authored a book called How To Draw Hip-Hop! Using his action-packed characters as influence, kids create their own superhero sculptures!

Ian Jones-Quartey Cartoons in the Media Lab: Ian Jones-Quartey is the creator of the Cartoon Network short OK K.O. and has also worked on countless other cartoons, like Steven Universe and Adventure Time. Inspired by his wacky and colorful characters, kis create their own cartoon character and bring them to life with animation!

Sporting Life Beats in the Sound Booth: Sporting Life is an American record producer, rapper, songwriter, artist, and architect from New York City. He founded New York City hip hop group Ratking with rappers Wiki and Hak. Kids produce their own Sporting Life-inspired beats in the Sound Booth.
