New Year's at the Needle
The annual New Year's light show at Seattle's Space Needle is presented virtually this year.
This year’s celebration offers striking visuals in a wondrous display of digital effects, engineered to bring bigger thrills than ever before – all viewed safely from the comfort of home.
Using sky-mapping technology and real video footage, the Space Needle is layered with immersive, digital artistic expressions to create an illusion of color and wonder. In reality, the tower is lit in sponsor T-Mobile’s distinctive magenta color, but on home screens, viewers are dazzled by a virtual spectacular surrounding the Space Needle and the skies above.
Viewers can stream online (or tune in locally to KING 5) starting at 11:35pm Pacific (1:35am Central, 2:35am Eastern) on New Year's Eve. The party begins with musical performances, celebrity cameos, a celebration of the community's resilience in 2020, and more.
The virtual show can only be seen on TV or streaming. There are no in-person festivities and no events at Seattle Center on New Year's Eve.
