Poster House hosts a day filled with interactive workshops for children and their guardians including cool crafts and workshops (mosaic clay bowls and natural dye watercolors), as well as button making and letterpress printing.

Winter Family Day events include:

10am-12pm: Make Your Own Terrazzo Bowls
Create your own terrazzo-inspired clay bowl. Using kid-safe Air Dry clay, form a small bowl and decorate it with multicolored glass mosaic tiles. Participants leave with a finished piece inspired by the speckled beauty of Italian terrazzo stone. This program welcomes children ages 5+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.

10am–3pm: Button Making!
Design and create your own wearable art inspired by the museum’s latest exhibitions! All materials are provided—just bring your creativity and leave with an awesome button to show off. This program welcomes children ages 4+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.

11am–2pm: Natural Dye Watercolor Workshop with Textile Arts Center
Learn about harvesting natural dyes from the backyard and surrounding environments. Participants of all ages can create watercolor paints using teas, flowers, and plants and explore how changes to pH levels can change the color of natural dyes. This program welcomes children of all ages and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.

11am–1pm: Explore the Urban Wilderness!
The Urban Park Rangers of NYC Parks lead a look at the diverse wildlife and ecosystems within New York City. Learn why these resources are valuable and necessary to us through visual aids and contact with various bio artifacts. This program welcomes children of all ages and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.

1pm–3pm: Letterpress Printing
Letterpress printing is one of the oldest printmaking techniques, used to make books, pamphlets, newspapers, and posters. Today, it is still an important part of graphic design. Explore the history of printmaking through letterpress printing as you create your own message with real wood type! This program welcomes children ages 3+ and their adults. It is not a drop-off program.
