Neurodiversity Comic Con at Asphalt Green
The Gillen Brewer School (GBS), a PreK-8th grade school serving students with language-based learning disabilities hosts its first Neurodiversity Comic Con, bringing the world of comics and children’s books together to spotlight neurodiverse characters, authors, and artists. Enjoy an inclusive, family-friendly celebration of imagination and representation.
Attendees can expect an exciting lineup of over 30 exhibitors, including beloved names like Archie Comics and Scholastic, as well as rising stars in the world of children’s literature. Highlights of the day include:
• Meet-and-Greets: A unique opportunity to meet with authors, illustrators, and artists who create characters that reflect neurodiverse perspectives, including special guests like Mika Song, comedian and author Maysoon Zayid, actor and musician Perry Yung, and artist and writer Ramon Gil.
• Fun Activities & Workshops: From hands-on Arts & Crafts with Recess UES to adaptive sports with Asphalt Green, plus a fun Rubik’s Cube challenge hosted by Intraspectrum Club, there’s something for every child and family to enjoy.
• Raffles, Swag, and More: Attendees have a chance to win cool giveaways, books, and other exclusive items through event raffles.
Keeping the event accessible and enjoyable for everyone is a top priority. With a controlled maximum capacity, the noise level will remain manageable, creating a less overwhelming experience compared to larger conventions.
Additionally, GBS is partnering with Boston-based Calmer Con to create a specially designed Cool Down Room for attendees needing a sensory break. The room will be softly lit, equipped with fidgets, and filled with calming activities to ensure all guests can enjoy their time comfortably.
