Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend at the Brooklyn Children's Museum with a heartwarming and eco-conscious tribute to the nurturing forces that surround us—from those found in nature to human mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers, to Mother Earth herself.

The museum hosts a day filled with unique and sustainable activities that foster gratitude, encourage community empowerment, and strengthen bonds with the Earth.

Workshops and Themes

Plant-Based Food Demo Workshop
10:30 am–11am & 2:30pm - 3pm
Cafe, 2nd Floor
Danielle Medina aka Fit N Play Mama,  introduces families to the wonderful world of plant-based foods, their superpower nutrient properties and how to create delicious recipes. Enjoy the taste of a healthy smoothie afterward.

Natural Dyes and Textiles
11am–11:45pm & 3pm–3:30pm
Greenhouse, 1st Floor
Explore the different ways we can use plants to make art with textile designer, artist, and educator Nelise Nashieda. Participants make their own paintings and learn how to bundle dye with natural materials like hibiscus, marigolds, onion skins, and different modifiers.

Plant Allies Talisman
12:30pm–1pm & 2pm–2:30pm
Greenhouse, 1st Floor
Laraib Ali, artist and earth steward, leads a protective talisman workshop using locally sourced herbs and other earthly treasures as an introduction to their powerful medicinal & healing properties. Participants fill up their own vessel of choice to carry with them daily. All ages are welcome.

Family Yoga
12pm–12:45pm & 3:30pm–4:15pm
Rooftop, 2nd Floor
Move your body into a nature-themed family yoga class led by Danielle Medina, aka Fit N Play Mama. Guests learn about the Mother Earth connection throughout the yoga demo and have a fully immersive experience.

Storytime and Yoga
11:30am–12pm & 3:30pm–4pm
BK Voices, 2nd Floor
Brooklyn author Lauren Hoffmeier is on hand for a reading and signing of her New York Times featured series, Mula and the Fly. The reading is followed by an interactive yoga workshop for kids.

Colorful Paper Flowers
Multiple sessions throughout the day

Visit the ColorLab Art Studio and create paper flowers to give to someone you love and care for.
