One City at a Time Kickoff in Pembroke Pines

Memorial Healthcare System’s “One City at a Time” program makes its next stop, at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines. A June 21 kickoff event will introduce the city’s residents to free, health-related resources and services that will be available in the coming months. The kickoff also includes raffles, games, music, and activities for kids.
The outreach, which includes bringing pediatric and adult mobile health centers to community locations, seeks to improve the health of the uninsured or underinsured, in part, by removing barriers to health and care and making it easier to connect with available resources. It’s all part of Memorial Primary Care’s commitment to proactive health that can prevent or more easily treat chronic conditions before they become a crisis for an individual and his or her family.
“We know that not having easy access to care is one of the social determinants that impact a person’s overall health,” said Dionne Blackwood, FACHE, vice president of Memorial Primary Care and Ambulatory Services. “That’s why we’ve made the commitment to have our mobile units on-site at community locations to make it easier for people to care for themselves and their families.”
Memorial is partnering with the City of Pembroke Pines Fire and Rescue Department to include health and safety education trainings (Stop the Bleed, CPR, drowning prevention, etc.) at the event.
Other services to be offered include:
- community resources
- medical exams and screenings
- vaccinations
- nutritional counseling
- Medicaid eligibility and insurance enrollment
- referrals to social services and specialists
- access to primary care physicians
Attendees will also receive a hot lunch and a healthy food package (first 300 families). Following the June 21 event (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.), Memorial will have its mobile teams at Pembroke Pines locations two days a week for 8 weeks. No appointment is necessary, and all services are free of charge.
