UPDATE:  The opening of the Butterfly Pavilion is postponed.

"Beginning Saturday, March 14, the Natural History Museum (NHM), La Brea Tar Pits Museum, and William S. Hart Museum will be closed until further notice."

It's butterfly season at the Natural History Museum.

The Butterfly Pavilion debuted its current residence, a permanent structure located outside on the south side of the museum, in 2016. The Pavilion features more flight space, more resting spots, and more natural light, and hundreds of free flying butterflies inside, along with Gallery Interpreters who can explain why these animals are so special.

Over 30 native Californian and North American subtropical butterfly and moth species, as well as an array of plants populate this much-anticipated seasonal exhibit, which offers visitors a chance to get an up-close view of the fluttering creatures.

Admission to the Butterfly Pavilion is separate from Museum admission and requires a timed ticket.

Butterfly Pavilion is an outdoor special exhibit and is subject to closure at anytime due to inclement weather. Weather permitting, the Butterfly Pavilion is open daily from 10 am-5 pm.
