Free Family Fun Day - Academy Museum Regeneration Summit
A free Family Day closes out the Academy Museum's weekend-long festival honoring its groundbreaking exhibition, Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971.
The day is filled with fun and enriching activities, including:
Horsemanship 101 with Urban Saddles Participants learn fundamental horsemanship skills with cowboy and Executive Director of Urban Saddles Ghuan Featherstone, then saddle up and take a ride in the pop-up arena.
Storytime with Baba the Storyteller Guests can build their own personal percussion instruments in the Regeneration Maker Lounge to join in on Baba’s traditional and communal storytelling.
How to Teach Black Cinema Educators and caretakers can learn creative ways to teach students about Black cinema.
After Lunch Talk with the Librarian of Congress Director and President of the Academy Museum Jacqueline Stewart and the Academy Museum’s Teen Council engage in conversation with the Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden to investigate the power of film restoration and how it can serve to impact generations of today and tomorrow. The conversation culminates with a special screening of Reform School (1939)
Other highlights include a photobooth, live and intimate pop-up performances, and the ALL-Black Mini Food Market.
