Today New York's resident Canada goose population numbers are close to 200,000 birds.

It’s hard to imagine that nearly a century ago there were no geese here at all. In fact, the geese you see throughout New York now are the descendants from private flocks who escaped captivity as well as geese who were purposely released as game birds for hunters. Some types of geese migrate up to 3,000 miles, while other species tend to stay in the same place year-round. Come celebrate Happy Goose Day with LICM by learning all about these migratory marvels and make one of your own to take home.
