Stony Brook University will provide free speech-language-hearing screenings of preschool-aged children at the Hampton Library on February 23. About this free service: Speech-language-hearing screenings will be conducted for preschool-aged children. Early screening looks for characteristics that might identify risk for underlying disorders of learning and attention. Some benefits to early screening and possible detection include: children receiving extra help sooner and preventing them from falling behind. Early screening may also prevent children from being inappropriately identified as having a learning disability or incorrectly being classified as needing special education services and supports.
