The Driehaus Museum hosts the Music Institute of Chicago in presenting songs, crafts, and activities to celebrate ragtime music, including the opportunity to play ragtime instruments!

From the host: "Ragtime music was developed during the Gilded Age and became widely popular after the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Ragtime music mixes European classical music and marches, with African rhythms and influences. Composers like Scott Joplin, called the 'King of Ragtime,' who was also influenced by the music of the American South, could be heard in live performance and on player pianos in many American leisure settings."
