Preschool Summer Series at the Waterworks Museum

Except July 4, 2019.
Toddlers are invited to explore water and the waterworks in fun, new ways this summer. Each session includes storytime, an activity, and a take-home craft.
Face coverings are recommended but not required. Reserving free tickets in advance is recommended (links to registration included with descriptions).
2022 SCHEDULE:
June 23rd: Sink or Float
Book: What Floats in a Moat?, by Lynne Berry
Activity: Test a range of objects to see if they float or sink, then use what's been learned to create boats. Register here.
June 30th: Water and the Three States of Matter
Book: Change It! Solids, Liquids, Gases and You, by Adrienne Mason
Activity: Learn about the three states of matter with movement games and then paint with ice cubes. Register here.
July 7th: Working Against Water Pollution
Book: Not for Me, Please! I Choose to Act Green, by Maria Godsey
Activity: Learn about ways to help the earth and surface water by cleaning up a pretend pond. Then, invite some happy fish to swim in it. Register here.
July 21st: A Raindrop's Journey
Book: A Raindrop’s Journey, by Suzanne Slade
Activity: Take on the role of a rain drop, learning about the water cycle and journeying through a waterworks jungle gym then create waterworks maps. Register here.
July 28th: Bringing Water Home
Book: The Water Princess, by Susan Verde
Activity: Use different tools people use to get water to their homes when they don't have access to a waterworks system, then decorate personal water carrying mugs. Register here.
August 4th: Keeping Water Safe and Clean
Book: Cutie Sue Fights the Germs, by Kate Melton
Activity: Compare the tools used to fight germs at home to the tools the waterworks uses to fight germs, decorate "Chlorine Shields," and play a game using various tools to fight the germs and keep the water system safe and clean. Register here.
August 11th: What's an Engineer?
Book: Rosie Revere, Engineer, by Andrea Beaty
Activity: Learn about engineers and explore different simple machines around the museum. Then build a simple machine. Register here.
August 18th: Animals Around the Reservoir
Book: Just Ducks! by Nicola Davies
Activity: Learn about the animal neighbors around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, followed by a a nature scavenger hunt, and creating animal masks. Register here.
