Backyard Bioblitz 2020
- see all dates
Larchmont's Sheldrake Environmental Center invites citizen scientists to participate in its first annual Backyard Bioblitz. Who knows, you could discover a new breed of mushroom!
Bioblitzes aim to find, identify, and record as many species as possible throughout the plant, fungus, and animal kingdoms over a short period of time, getting an accurate snapshot of an area’s overall biodiversity.
Participants form a group, then choose an area for their bioblitz, be it their backyard, a park, or along their block's sidewalk. Data may be collected anywhere in Westchester County.
The free iNaturalist app is used to record data. Observations are collected anytime during the week of July 12-July 18, 2020. More specific details are listed on the event site.
Prizes are awarded in multiple categories
