Celebrate the start of 2023 with a ranger-led First Day hike in Mason Neck State Park. There will be hikes for all ages and skill levels.

Hikes will begin at the following times throughout the day on January 1: 

  • 9:30am: Kane's Creek to Eagle Spur trail, a roughly 3.8-mile hike on packed dirt with stairs. Not wheelchair- or stroller- friendly.
     
  • 12pm: Dogue Trail hike and roll, a 1-mile packed dirt trail that is wheelchair accessible.
     
  • 1:30pm: Tundra Swan Hike at the Woodmarsh Trail at Elizabeth Hartwell Refuge.  Approximately 2.5 miles loop. Not wheelchair friendly. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Limited space available for this hike only. Registration is REQUIRED for this hike only.
     
  • 3pm: Family friendly Hike on Bay View Trail that is approximately 1.25 miles, with stops and hands on opportunities for adventure and exploration.
