Eastchester With Kids: 25 Things to Do for Westchester Families

4/6/14 - By Danielle Feldman

Eastchester might be a small town, but when it comes to entertaining kids and families, this town has a lot to offer! Eastchester's roots date back to a group of ten families that migrated to the area back in 1664 from Fairfield, CT. Now home to over 33,000 residents (including the town's two villages, Tuckahoe and Bronxville), this year marks Eastchester's 350th anniversary!

Eastchester and its villages offer award winning school districts, beautiful homes and apartment complexes and a town-owned country club, Lake Isle, a true gem and huge draw for many residents (including myself). Between its close proximity to NYC, stellar school districts, lovely tree lined streets, plus shops and restaurants galore, Eastchester has become a destination town in Westchester. In April, we will be highlighting the town of Eastchester, including its two villages, Bronxville and Tuckahoe. We'll take a look at the best places to eat, play and learn with kids in this charming town, starting with 25 fun things to do with kids in Eastchester.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

  1. Listen to a story, do arts and crafts or join a reading group at the libraries in Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville.
  2. Go for a walk or bike ride along the beautiful and scenic Bronx River Parkway. In summer, enjoy cycling on the Parkway when its closed to traffic during Bicycle Sundays.
  3. Explore an ambulance and learn safety techniques from first responders at the annual Traffic & Safety Expo at Town Hall.
  4. Practice your happy baby or downward dog pose at Yoga Haven in Tuckahoe--there are classes for kids and adults!
  5. Take the little ones to Little Stars for a haircut--let them choose between a plane, cab or car chair while the experts (skilled in servicing even difficult young patrons) work their magic.
  6. Indulge in huge, delicious slices at Crestwood Pizzeria.
  7. Choose from ballet, hip-hop and more at Studio B Dance Center, where kids as young as 2 can take class.
  8. Spend the day shopping at Vernon Hills shopping center, where you'll find what you need for the whole family.
  9. Check out Town Hall's free summer concert series on Wednesday nights! Family fun, music and dancing make these summer nights truly unforgettable. Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs and enjoy.
  10. Take a stroll down Pondfield Road in Bronxville, lined with boutique shops and flavorful restaurants, in the heart of the village.
  11. Indulge in traditional pastries, pies, cannoli's and more at Teresa's Bakery & Café. Yum!
  12. Browse the aisles at Tuckahoe's family-owned Epstein's clothing store which has been servicing the camp and apparel needs of their customers since 1933.
  13. Stop by Lake Isle’s annual Columbus Day Carnival and parade for fun, exciting games, rides, delicious Italian food and fireworks!
  14. Sign the wee ones up for art or music classes at Bronxville Women’s Club, a beautiful facility and historical building that houses many programs for children (my own included) and adults.
  15. Join in on the fun at Town Hall’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt! Kids fill their baskets with goodies, and meet and have their picture taken with the Easter bunny!
  16. Need a new pair of kicks? Head to family-owned Sneaker Lounge in the heart of Eastchester that specializes in exclusive footwear and apparel for kids and adults.
  17. Pop into Piper’s Kilt restaurant for one of the best burgers in Westchester.
  18. Take horseback riding lessons at Twin Lakes Farm in Bronxville.
  19. Take a martial arts class at Westchester Martial Arts Academy--classes focus on the importance of peace and diplomacy while learning to respect themselves and others. Great for physical and emotional health!
  20. Join the annual Ragamuffin Parade and march down to Town Hall for spooky festivities, candy and a costume contest!
  21. Choose from basketball, yoga, defensive driving and more at Tuckahoe Community Center.
  22. Enjoy the fresh air, visit the butterfly garden and check out the bird sanctuary at The Nature Preserve.
  23. Check out the many gorgeous parks and playgrounds around town.
  24. Treat your little one to delicious fro-yo at Nuts About Yogurt.
  25. Choose from a range of sports and arts programs from tots to teens at the town’s Recreation Department.
