Children's Book Author Reading at Missouri City Branch Library
Houston’s own “Leslie Knope,” Jessica Young, explains to young readers what it takes to run a city in her debut children’s book, Millie the Mayor Baby.
This new children’s book teaches kids ages 0-6 years old how local government serves the community, the job opportunities available in the public sector, how to be a changemaker in their neighborhoods, and the power of teamwork.
Potholes, waste collection, flood mitigation, and economic development – Millie the Mayor Baby covers it all in an age-appropriate way while encouraging readers to work together to make the community better.
To celebrate National Reading Month, author Jessica Young has launched at library tour packed with 30-minute storytime events in libraries across Fort Bend County. During the energetic storytime, Jessica will read Millie the Mayor Baby, lead participants in songs (“Wheels on the Bus” in discussion about city mobility, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and “Five Little Ducks” in discussion about city parks), and lead the group in an interactive craft activity in which they draw what their city would look like if they were mayor.
Bring your copy of Millie the Mayor Baby (available everywhere books are sold) to get it signed at the event!
