Family Festival: Nubia (Getty Villa)
- see all dates
The Getty Villa celebrates the rich traditions of Nubian culture in this free, interactive festival for all ages.
Guests can experience the sights and sounds of the region through music and dance, hands-on workshops, and photo ops.
Performers include Mekail and Nubian Sound Group, who perform the sounds and dance of the region, and DJ Tana Yonas, who delicately weaves a selection of musical gems from Africa’s east coast.
All day activities include art workshops where guests can craft a protective amulet inspired by ancient symbols, make Nubian-inspired beaded jewelry, and create their own mythological creature.
Guests can also pose in a desert themed photo booth, or visit a reconstructed Nubian pyramid.
This two-day festival is inspired by the exhibition Nubia: Jewels of Ancient Sudan From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Admission is free but reservations are required. Parking is limited and costs $20; advance reservations strongly advised.
