TAWCS C.A.M.P. [Combining Art and Math with Purpose]
- see all dates
The Art of Words Community School's 2022 Combining Art and Math with Purpose (C.A.M.P.) program harnesses the power of art to advance learning and achievement in math, specifically designed for students who may struggle with math. The program uses art to make abstract math concepts concrete, understandable, and approachable. Campers can sign up by the day or by the week.
The hands-on curriculum engages and motivates all styles of learners, particularly visual and kinesthetic. Sample techniques include activities such as visually depicting regrouping using an abstract paper collage, mixing colors and cutting papers into fractional parts to create a mobile, creating an array print by exploring positive and negative space, and more.
Sample Day:
- Camp day begins with 30-45 minutes of outdoor time at the park followed by a math activity
- 30-minute break
- Class instruction (1.5 hours)
- Lunch and outdoor time or local field trip
- Gallery time (students work on their individual art projects)
- End of the day meeting
- Dismissal
Camp is offered from June 20-August 19, 2022. Sign up by the day or week below. For weekly sign ups, pick the Monday of the week you would like to attend and full or half day option. To sign up for more than one day, you can add them to your cart one at a time before checking out.
