Celebrate Nature's Friends
- see all dates
This holiday season is the bee’s knees. Visit the Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby, Connecticut and celebrate “Nature’s Friends”.
Each room will have bee-utiful decorations representing peculiar pollinators like bats and lemurs to familiar ones like bees and butterflies. The holiday tours will run from Friday,
November 29 through Saturday, December 21. Tours will be offered Thursdays through Sundays from 10 to 4. On Fridays, the museum will present its “Twilight Tours” from 4 to 7.
This year’s holiday theme will honor nature’s friends, the pollinators. When Osborndale Farm was in operation, it depended on pollinators for its livestock feed, fruit orchards, vegetable and herb gardens, and flower garden. Today pollinators still play a vital role in agriculture. According to the United States Fish & Wildlife Service, over seventy-five percent of all flowering plants and nearly seventy-five percent of crops are pollinated by animals. “Nature’s Friends” will highlight the importance of pollinators, agriculture in the state of Connecticut, and the legacy of Osborndale Farm.
Admission is free and donations are accepted. To register for group tours and for more information, please call (203) 734-2513.
