American Museum of Natural History

On select Saturday afternoons throughout the school year, children 7 years old and older are invited to come upstairs to the Discovery Room for a chance to talk with an AMNH scientist as they share their passion for science and fascinating findings with you.

December 1: What happens on the sun? Alejandro Núñez explains the Sun’s amazing atmosphere, where unexpected events take place. The atmosphere is more violent and hotter than anyone thought, all thanks to magnetic fields. Giant explosions on the Sun’s atmosphere sometimes affect us here on Earth, even though we are many millions of miles away. Alejandro explains why the Sun’s atmosphere behaves the way it does and shares dramatic videos of the Sun from space telescopes such as SOHO and SDO.

Sessions at 2:15pm, 3pm, and 3:45pm.

Space is limited and tickets are distributed at the Discovery Room on a first-come, first-served basis.
