Real life involves risks, from cycling without a helmet to visiting a country with contagious diseases to living near the water. Sometimes your perception of risk is distorted, making you think that some things are more — or less — risky than is actually the case. How statistically significant are the risks that we see? And what do the numbers mean?

Jen Rogers, Director of Statistical Consultancy Services for the University of Oxford, demonstrates how statistics can be used to make better decisions about risky activities.
