Today’s children may feel overwhelmed by schoolwork and chores, but many kids on the Lower East Side in the early 1900s had real jobs to juggle! Children played such a crucial role supporting their households that school was sometimes a welcome break.

Head to Eldridge Street to explore the world of working kids, from newsies to seamstresses.  Plus, see whether you and your family have what it takes to succeed in the 1900s working world!

Recommended for children ages five to 11 and their adult companions.
