Sugar Hill's January PlayDate features art-making, storytelling, music, and more celebrating and honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.!
10am - 12pm: Art-Making activities with Tatiana Arocha
2pm - 1pm: Workshop with Artist-In-Residence Lina Puerta
Make a Collage Weaving using unconventional upcycled materials. Take a creative journey with Lina Puerta, Sugar Hill's Artist in Residence, and learn how art materials can reinforce themselves.
11am - 3pm: Artist-In-Residence Open Studio
Visit artist-in-residence Lina Puerta at her studio, where she is available to talk about her work and what she is creating.
1pm - 2pm: Story Hour with Flor!
Resident storyteller Flor Bromley shares magical stories.
2pm - 3pm: March On! The Day My Brother Martin Changed the World
A screening of the animated short film in which Martin Luther King, Jr.'s sister presents a personal, stirring account of the remarkable day Dr. King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech and of the man who went on to inspire the nation.
3pm - 4:30pm: The Drum Major Instinct
Celebrate community, our voices, and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through art-making, a children’s book reading and inter-generational program exploring oral histories, spoken word, and basic American Sign Language expressions facilitated by Pickney Productions and the Significant Elders.
