Step Inside a Hopper in Gansevoort Plaza

- see all dates
The Whitney Museum is home to the most Edward Hopper works of any museum worldwide, and this year invites families to celebrate the artist’s birthday—Monday, July 22—with large-scale, 3-D interactive installations on Gansevoort Plaza. Visitors can step inside recreations of three of Hopper’s most recognizable pieces to pose and create their own interpretations of the works with the help of live performers.
Friday: 1pm-6pm
Saturday-Monday: 10am-6pm
Featured installations:
Nighthawks - Take a seat inside Hopper’s iconic diner scene, complete with a live barista serving coffee from a neighborhood vendor on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, from 11am onward while supplies last.
Soir Bleu - Transporting visitors into Hopper’s introspective take on French café culture, a clown performer is on hand on Friday, July 19, Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 to set the scene.
Early Sunday Morning - Step off the bustling streets of present-day New York City and into the stillness of this portrait of Seventh Avenue in the 1930s.
Soir Bleu and Early Sunday Morning are currently on view at the Whitney for those who want to view the original paintings. On July 20, the museum is hosting its annual “Hopper Day” celebration, which includes the second annual Whitney Hopper Ride, a ~60-mile round-trip bike ride from the Meatpacking District to Hopper’s birthplace in Nyack, New York.
