Women's History and the Jersey-Dutch at Historic New Bridge Landing

Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they celebrate Women's History and the Jersey- Dutch at Historic New Bridge Landing. Children's activities including a scavenger hunt with a prize will be available throughout the day. 

There will be two talks taking place in the Steuben House. At 1:30 pm Jonathan Friedman will be speaking about his partner George Way who was a prolific collector of Dutch and New Netherland material culture. At 2:15 pm Dr. Meta Janowitz will be giving a presentation on Four Generations of Dutch Women in New Netherland.

Also, in the Steuben House will be an exhibit featuring BCHS's collections of New Netherland and Jersey Dutch artifacts including donated collections from the George Way Estate.

All three 18th century Jersey Dutch sandstone houses will be open for tours throughout the day. The Blackhorse Inn will also be open where visitors may purchase refreshments and visit the gift shop.

The society's authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen will be open with interpreters cooking seasonal 18th century recipes on the open hearth.

 

Free parking available on site. Dogs are permitted on the grounds (not in the houses).
