East Asian Autumn Festival
Enjoy a vivid introduction to the unique Asian traditions associated with the Moon and Lantern Festivals of East Asia.
Narrated music and dance performances will feature Japanese Minyo dances and Taiko drumming, traditional Korean dances, the Chinese lantern dance, a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai costume show, the Chinese Peking Opera, as well as a musical performance featuring a zither and vocals.
Visitors can participate in unique experiences of old imagery and present-day creativity with a variety of special hands-on demonstrations of folk and traditional art making from many different cultures. Enjoy stations presenting the Chinese “Art of Tea” and play games. The community arts project and installation of “A Hundred Lanterns” will also be on display!
Free admission for the East Asian Autumn Festival is provided by the “WheatonArts Family Days, presented by PNC Arts Alive” program.
The “East Asian Autumn Festival” is part of the Down Jersey Folklife Center’s “Near and Far: Arts and Cultures of East Asia” project, presented in partnership with Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission and Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. Major support for this partnership project has been provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
