Monster Mash at the Academy Museum
The Academy Museum hosts a day filled with monstrously good fun, including special effects makeup demonstrations, ghostly tours, special monster appearances, magic lantern shows, and activities.
SCHEDULE
11am–2pm: Community Monster Mural (Walt Disney Company Piazza)
Everyone can join in to color in classic creatures by adding colors and drawings on a collaborative mural.

10:30am – Noon & 1pm – 2:30pm:Special Effects Makeup and Hair Demonstration (Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby, L1)
It's a scary good time with special effects transformations by costume designer Isis Mussenden, two-time Academy Award®-nominated Ken Diaz, and Academy Award®-winner Yolanda Toussieng.

1pm – 5pm: Monster Meet and Greet (Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby, L1)
The museum scares up Universal Studios classic movie monsters, including the Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, and Dracula for a special photo opportunity.

1pm, 2pm, and 3pm: Monsters and Heroes Encounters Tours (Level 3)
No need to be afraid of the dark on these family-friendly Monsters and Heroes Encounters tours. Guests reep through Stories of Cinema 3 and explore movie heroes and monsters—and those in-between—on a 30-minute guided tour of the Encounters and Effects galleries. Sightings of supernatural beings and superheroes could be around every corner.
Tours meet on Level 3 at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. Tours have limited space and are first-come, first-served. Please arrive at the tour meeting place on Level 3 up to 10 minutes before the start of the tour to secure your spot.

2:30–5:30pm: Magic Lantern Show (Shirley Temple Education Studio)
Experimental animator Melissa Ferrari shares her wonderous take on the classic tradition of magic lantern phantasmagoria shows. Melissa incorporates a variety of handmade and antique slides that depict where science and the supernatural meet. Between performances, guests can design their own slide to take home.
