Exploring Critical Media Literacy and Making Memes
This hands-on workshop explores our relationships with media, technology, and popular culture by critically questioning media and creating our own alternative messages.
By critically reading and writing with images, sounds, multimedia, and print, participants enhance their critical thinking skills and embrace their potential as active global citizens.
This two hour workshop uses the critical media literacy framework to explore examples and engage in activities before participants create their own memes that address group interests and concerns. Led by Dr. Jeff Share, award-winning photojournalist and educator, UCLA senior lecturer, and author of numerous articles and books on critical media literacy.
Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, it is not recommended for ages 13 or below.
An ADA-accessible entrance to the Glorya Kaufman Community Center is available through the garden gate from the parking lot. It opens approximately 30 minutes before the program begins.
