5th Annual Community & Unity People's Kite Festival
Clockshop and California State Parks host Community & Unity, the 5th annual People’s Kite Festival, at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, next to historic Chinatown. Guests can participate in free arts workshops, enjoy live music, and meet local community organizations to learn about their work in the nearby neighborhoods.
This year’s festival is organized around the theme "Entangled in Community."
Back for its second year is the kite competition, inviting attendees to compete in various categories judged by kite masters, such as the best handmade kite and a flying competition.
This family-friendly cultural festival features a “gallery in the sky,” including flying demonstrations with kite masters, art workshops, the opportunity to connect with local community organizations, and musical performances.
2025 artist, Maria Maea, is on site to design and create a unique kite form borne of the connective threads between Central American and Oceanic cultural traditions, drawing from her experiences as a first-generation Mexican and Samoan artist.
In addition, attendees can watch plein air painting unfold in a real-time performance by Los Angeles-based watercolor artist Sterling Wells, as he paints on the hilltop beside the Roundhouse Bridge.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVP to reserve a spot. Guests can make an optional donation with RSVP.
Attendees are encouraged attendees to make their own kites or visit the website for suggestions on where to purchase eco-friendly kites ahead of the event. There will be no kite vendors at the event and instead, a very limited number of ready-to-assemble kites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
