Children’s Workshop: ‘A Kid’s Life at Eagle’s Nest’ at the Vanderbilt Museum
Sat Dec 7, 2019
10:00am ET
Age: Grades:K-5
Price: $18 – $20
Location:
Vanderbilt Mansion, Museum, Planetarium
Children can learn what it was like to live the privileged life during the 1930s in a Gold Coast mansion – and have fun doing it – in a new workshop offered by the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s Education Department.
Children will tour the mansion, decorated for the holidays, with an educator and hear stories about the Vanderbilt children and their family.
Like the young Vanderbilts (William III, Muriel and Consuelo), workshop participants will listen to 1930s radio programs and play period games such as jacks, marbles, and checkers, in the upstairs parlor. In that room, the family played games, sat by the fireplace, played music on the 1,476-pipe Aeolian organ, and listened to programs and music on the radio.
