Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race
Kids are invited to compete in the annual Riverhead Business District Cardboard Boat Race. The event, held along Peconic River in downtown Riverhead, features vessels made exclusively from cardboard, duct tape, and paint.
All boats must be named. Registration begins at 9 a.m.; competition begins at 11am. There will be vendors, face painting, games, and contests for all ages.
There are four race divisions and an opportunity to race again if a craft is still afloat. Winners will be announced in each of the divisions: Youth Regatta, Yacht Club Regatta, Outlaw Race & Pirate Race. As per tradition, special awards will be given out to: Best Spirit; Titanic Sinking; People's Choice; Best Constructed (no tubes); Best Captain; Most creative and Commander's Choice. Children 12 and younger compete in a special youth regatta. All participants must wear an approved flotation device.
