About the film: “Son of a nutcracker!” In a career defined by zany comedic swings, Will Ferrell has never been funnier than when he played Buddy, the wide-eyed human raised by elves who goes to New York City in search of his father (James Caan). Ferrell’s awestruck, childlike glee leads an unending string of punchlines as he makes his way through the city and baffles everyone he comes across. Ultimately, Buddy’s giddy optimism is the antidote that cynical New Yorkers never knew they needed. David Berenbaum’s script delivers a brilliant blend of slapstick and Christmas cheer, reinventing the appeal of the holiday movie with equal doses of silliness and soul.
