Meet the Animals: Cold-blooded Creature Double-feature
Discover the amazing, sometimes strange, adaptations that allow native amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds to survive harsh New York winters. With live animal ambassadors from the Tenafly Nature Museum, learn about a variety of body coverings, and the relationship between their needs and the places they live. An environmental educator from the Museum reveals strategies that cold-blooded creatures, including snakes and turtles, use to survive both cold and warm temperatures. Ages six and older welcome with an adult.
Free with grounds admission.
Saturday only, 11:30am-12:30pm or 1pm-2pm

Winter Wildlife Tracks Workshop
Explore Wave Hill’s diverse animal tracks and practice investigation skills on a walk-through of the Conifer Slope to learn about incredible creature adaptations. Then using natural materials, explore animal tracks through print making. Ages six through ten are welcome with an adult. First come, first served.
Saturday only, 2pm-3:30pm

Family Art Project: Hibernators' Dreams
Create a mask to mimic hibernating groundhogs, bats, turtles and more. Decorate it with seeds as you think about dormancy and how seeds need time for sleep. Then collaborate on a dreamy tale of what it means to rest in winter.
Both days, 10am-1pm

The Hibernators' Den
Cozy up in the hibernators’ reading nook with books, puzzles and puppets. Hunt for sleeping creatures in a self-guided game and mix up some hot chocolate to help you nap through winter.
Both days, 11am to 3pm

Restful Yoga for Little Hibernators
Yoga teacher Corinne Flax visits the Hibernators Den to guide children and their adult companions through a sequence of gentle poses that are sure to help even the wildest of animals settle down. Rest in poses like “bedtime bug” and “tired dog,” then awaken from hibernation like a bear and head home for a long winter’s nap. Appropriate for ages five and older with an adult companion.
Sunday only, 1pm-2pm
