Student Exhibition at Soundview Family YMCA
The Connecticut Experiential Learning Center Middle School's Theme Share Day Exhibition will take place June 7 at Soundview Family YMCA.
This year’s thematic study at CELC Middle School is entitled “Heritage, Ethnicity, and Quest for Freedom."
Students each chose countries to study for a research paper from where there were a large number of people who emigrated to the U.S., focusing primarily on the “push/pull” factors involved.
Students now embark on “theme project work”, bringing their research to a new level as they work toward CELC’s “share day” event to take place June 7. Students design and build elaborate “living museum” interactive displays, dress in costume to portray an invented persona representing someone from the country they have studied. This involves creating an authentic historical fiction account of their persona’s family, occupation, lifestyle, et cetera and eloquently sharing this story. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions and experience in an interactive way all that the students have learned.
Come meet “immigrants” (or those from forced migration) from countries including China, Guatemala, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Africa, and Cambodia.
